TravelWise week
Drivers across Merseyside are being urged to leave their cars at home during TravelWise Week (19-26 September) in favour of cycling, walking or catching public transport. The campaign has been created as part of a long-term aim to help reduce carbon emissions, tackle climate change and cut congestion.
TravelWise Co-ordinator, Jane Moore, is hoping TravelWise Week will remind people who normally rely on their cars to consider the other options available. She said: “TravelWise Week is designed to encourage people to think about healthier and greener alternatives to the car that can save them money. Making at least some journeys by bus, train, bike or on foot can contribute to a better environment for everyone.
“TravelWise is about reducing congestion, improving air quality and making the roads safer by helping people to make smarter travel choices. TravelWise offers advice and resources such as cycling and walking maps to help you plan your shorter journeys while the Traveline telephone helpline offers door-to-door route planning on public transport.”
To celebrate TravelWise Week, there are lots of prizes up for grabs from bikes and money saving public transport tickets to calorie counting pedometers. Visit www.LetsTravelWise.org before 26 September for a chance to win.
