Top green awards for city charity
Liverpool children’s charity KIND is delighted to announce that in the last week they have received two top environmental awards and hope that in doing so they can inspire others to become green heroes. They were given a Gold Award at the 16th International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice. This award was given in recognition of the work of their Environmental Education and Training programme for disadvantaged children in Liverpool and greater Merseyside.
They were also awarded the best Environmental Project at the Comtechsa 30th Birthday Awards. This award was given in recognition of how KIND has acknowledged their environmental responsibility by incorporating significant environmental features (including energy conservation, waste management, recycling and water conservation) into their SEED Centre.
The KIND SEED Centre has transformed a formerly derelict piece of land in Toxteth, one of the UK’s most deprived areas into one of the most eco friendly buildings in Liverpool. Opened in January 2008, the centre offers year round environmental education for local disadvantaged children, young people and their families and was designed so that its eco features would help to illustrate environmental issues.
Today KIND Chief Executive and Founder Stephen Yip said,
‘We are honoured to have received these awards. Its further recognition of the important environmental teaching work we’re doing with disadvantaged children and the impact our SEED Centre is having on their lives. Hopefully, these awards and our SEED Centre can inspire others to make a difference environmentally and ensure that all children, whatever their backgrounds, are included in our environmental future.’
