Ticket deal for green play
As part of 2009's NICE Festival of Nordic Art and Culture, unitytheatre brings you an early Christmas present; Greela and the 13 Yule Lads. Directed by Kolbrun Halldorsdottir Iceland's Minister for the environment.
Gifts left in shoes, milk disappearing from the fridge and mysterious figures whisking into the shadows can only mean one thing. It's Christmas time in Iceland and the Yule Lads are back in town.
Greela, the giant troll, sets off with a sack slung over her shoulder, hoping to satisfy her craving for stewed naughty, lazy or rude children. Be assured, Greela isn't the only one to look out for; just as mischievous and daring are her 13 children, the Yule Lads.
In the tradition of the Brothers Grimm, renowned Icelandic actor, writer and children's presenter Felix Bergsson along with director Kolbrun Halldorsdottir and the Theatre on the Scene company use music, storytelling, puppets and magic to tell the story which has delighted children and adults in Iceland for centuries.
Theatre on the Scene aims to use theatre to put political theatre back on the map, raising awareness of social issues affecting the people of Europe such as climate change and the environment.
Greela & The 13 Yule Lads at unitytheatre. Sat 21 November, 11.00am & 2.30pm. Tickets: £8, children £5.
