GOING GLOBAL - THE ROYAL LIVERPOOL PHILHARMONIC SCHOOLS' CONCERTS 2009
Each year, the Phil's annual schools' concert series offer a fantastic introduction to classical music, with supporting resources for classroom use, including an especially recorded CD, for thousands of children and young people across Liverpool and the North West. Offering a range of concerts for children at Key Stage 1, 2 and 3, this programme will reach over 22,000 children and young people between March and June 2009.
Our Key Stage 2 and 3 concerts, called Going Global, have been designed as part of the Phil's contribution to Liverpool's Year of the Environment 2009. This week, over 15,000 children will attend 9 concerts at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and the Phil also plays concerts in Blackburn, Preston and Wrexham.
Music includes George Fenton's Blue Whale from BBC's The Blue Planet, the haunting Cantus Arcticus, a traditional Ecuadorian piece called Carnavalito, as well as celebratory music from around the world including Soul Bossa Nova and Estancia. With big screens on stage showing images supplied by GREENPEACE, celebrating the natural beauty of our planet, and close up shots of the Liverpool Phil in performance, the concerts are a highlight in the academic calendar for many schools, providing a unique opportunity for children and young people to experience music performed by a world class symphony orchestra.
