Liverpool smells the Eco friendly coffee
The Mocha Lounge has become one of the first local businesses to take on the gauntlet thrown down by Liverpool City Council’s Year of The Environment initiative.
The Sir Thomas Street-based coffee lounge has introduced eco-friendly takeaway beakers made from corn, water and paper. All of The Mocha Lounge’s takeaway cups are made from 99% renewable sources and most importantly they are completely recyclable and bio-degradable.
The eco-friendly beakers remove the feelings of guilt from throwing away empties in a dustbin as these cups dissolve leaving no trace and most importantly no harm to the environment.
Chris Lambert, Manager of The Mocha Lounge said:
“Environmentally friendly working practices have always been at the core of what we do, also anything we can do the help the Year of The Environment initiative is worth while. We like to help our customers as much as possible on their recycling journey and we have ensured that our eco-friendly beakers will not affect the taste of our coffee as we use a special biodegradable plastic coating that maintains flavour and hygiene.”
Liverpool City Council’s Executive Member for the Environment, Councillor Berni Turner, who is heading up Year of The Environment said:
“This is exactly the kind of thing we are looking to see from local businesses, The Mocha Lounge has done an excellent job in stepping up and showing some initiative towards making Liverpool a more environmentally friendly city. It is one thing to encourage people not to litter, and it is great to see a business adopting a greener supply chain, even the smallest things make a big impact on our environment.”
Liverpool’s Year of the Environment 2009 is the biggest green celebration ever seen in the North West – and the first legacy year for European Capital of Culture 2008. Liverpool City Council is working with a huge number of organisations across the region on a range of exciting inititatives aimed at making Merseyside truly green and sustainable.
