Carbon reduction begins at home
A new Wirral-wide drive to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will be launched at Tranmere Rovers’ home game against Brentford this Saturday (5th December).
‘C Red Wirral’ aims to help local people to reduce pollution caused by carbon emissions by encouraging them to use a new interactive website - wirral.cred2.co.uk
The website lists over 80 different pledges that can help save energy and cut carbon pollution. People can pick from these pledges and ‘see’ the emission savings that result. The site will keep a running total of the carbon savings from all pledges made across Wirral.
C Red Wirral is backed by Wirral Council, NHS Wirral and the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Ahead of the launch, Cllr. Gill Gardiner, Wirral Council Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We all contribute to carbon dioxide emissions through the energy we use at home, at work and through travel. C-Red Wirral aims to help make these emissions more visible so we can all do something about it. The website will help show that even small actions can make a big difference.”
The launch of C Red Wirral coincides with global climate talks starting on 7th December. World leaders are gathering in Copenhagen to try to agree global reductions in climate damaging pollution.
Cllr. Gardiner added: “As the Copenhagen talks draw near, we want to provide a means for Wirral people to make their own person commitment to act on CO2. Climate change is a global problem, but pollution caused by carbon emissions starts in our homes and workplaces. It’s an issue we can all do something about.”
