Business week goes green

A green Business day in Liverpool is to be one of the highlights of a week to promote entrepreneurship across Europe.

European SME (small and medium enterprises) Week from 6-14 May will inform entrepreneurs about support available for them at European, national and local level. It allows SMEs to discover what information, advice, and ideas are available to help them develop their activities.

In Liverpool the Green Business day will be held on Thursday 7 May. It will include a breakfast networking session at the Mocha Lounge in Sir Thomas Street, followed by a Green Business Fair to be held in a marquee at Chavasse Park.

In the evening the focus switches to the Studio 2 at Parr Street Studios when Professor Eric Bichard,  Professor of Regeneration and Sustainable Development, University of Salford and sustainability advisor to the city of Liverpool, will be speaking about  sustainable business.  There will also be an opportunity to sample locally sourced food and listen to live music.

Councillor Gary Millar, Executive Member for Enterprise and Tourism, said: “Little did I know when I brought European SME Week to Liverpool just how successful it would be. I'm proud to say that with over 20 events and more to come Liverpool is proving to be the most successful "week" in Europe. We all need to do our best to work together to support small and medium sized businesses.

“Now more than ever its important that this  Council and its partners be more innovative and creative and bring event like these to Liverpool.

“But it is also important that the business community looks at issues like sustainability and we are now asking green business and environmental support agencies to support the day by taking space at the fair, taking part in a workshop or even sponsoring the event.”

Cllr Berni Turner, Executive Member for the Environment, added; “Many local businesses have got involved in Liverpool’s Year of the Environment and I would hope that many others would take this opportunity to find out about green businesses.

“We are even thinking of making life easy to get around in an environmentally friendly way by using pedal powered pedicabs to take people from Liverpool One to Parr Street!”
